Pou Series – Kārure

A series of beautiful pou depicting the different types of decorative elements found on kākahu (cloak) of old.

Each pou is woven in muka, harakeke (NZ Flax) fibre processed by hand to create beautiful silky threads for weaving. The black colour has been obtained by boiling in waiwai (mordant) and then immersed in paru (mud). The pou stand on a base of Kahikatea, a beautiful strong native tree. Or can be hung on the wall

This pou has kārure which are unravelling tags and look a little like the helix or DNA
